Breast Cancer, being the second most common cancer for women, can be diagnosed and cured if detected at an early age. But to detect at an early age, women who are 40 years and older should take mammograms every one or two years. Mammogram is a screening tool used to detect and diagnose breast cancer. Pain and discomfort are the top reasons why women avoid them. For this reason, Ashia, a self examination device was created.

A self examination device would empower women with the life-saving knowledge of early detection. With this device, breast examination becomes a part of your regular health and wellness routine.

The purpose of this device is to scan the breasts and detect anything present in the breasts apart from the breast tissue. It is important for women to become familiar with their breast tissues and the natural changes happening to it.

A wearable with piezoelectric sensors would allow women to examine their breasts with ease and without any pre-requisite knowledge about their tissues. The vibrations of the sensors would allow detection of a change in the density levels in the tissues. This device would not be a replacement to mammography but would act like a self-care device and minimise a woman?s visits for mammography.
